This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
