Former President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Memorials across the state have taken place in their memory.
The president said he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the parents of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump addressed reporters. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”
Mourners assembled over the weekend at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to aid public safety in Washington DC.
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators hoped for. She behaved with calm resilience, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the leader of her previous school, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to support those in need.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The incident prompted the administration to halt asylum processing and cease granting entry permits to possessors of travel documents.
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on a news program.

Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, per the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey addressed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
