Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
