Liverpool Refuses to Abandon Offensive Approach In the Face of Poor Run of Form, Says Head Coach Slot

The Dutch manager has stated that the team leadership agree with his assessment regarding the team's slump and he has no intention of discarding their offensive approach in pursuit of a turnaround. The head coach conceded that six losses in seven games was below standard ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.

Pressure Mounting Amid Difficult Period

The manager acknowledged the pressure was on before his rotated squad exited the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace. However, he emphasized that this urgency to stop the losing streak is not coming from the team's proprietors or executive leadership following a substantial investment of almost £450m.

"They say similar things," remarked the Liverpool boss, whose squad will encounter Real Madrid in the European competition and travel to Pep Guardiola's side in the domestic competition.

Squad Quality Stays Undoubted

Liverpool's manager thinks his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are all fit and fully prepared for the schedule ahead". He noted that the summer investment in talents including the attacking midfielder and Alexander Isak, who is probably unavailable again against the Birmingham club through physical problems, had left the club "in such a good place for the immediate prospects and the years to come".

Integration Challenges

When asked why his team were having difficulty blending, he replied: "You don't really help me. 'What are the reasons?' I give an explanation and people say I'm making justifications. I can list multiple factors why we are not winning as much or losing as much as we do but, as I say every time, there are insufficient justifications to have a run of form as we had now."

  • No matter if I could identify multiple factors
  • Leading this club you must avoid losses
  • The reality is six out of seven

Backline Performance

Only Burnley (twenty-one) have faced more big chances from regular play this season than Slot's team (nineteen). The first-place team, the North London club, have conceded only two. Yet Slot denies the defense has been too vulnerable and claims there is no reason to abandon offensive philosophy for a defensive approach after ten fixtures without a goalless performance.

"In my view we're not allowing many opportunities so I find no basis to change our playing style totally but we need to do better in keeping clean sheets," he stated.

Particular Cases

"Against Manchester United, how many chances did we concede? Versus the German side when we were leading 3-1, we scarcely gave up a shot on target. In all the games we have competed in we haven't allowed a many opportunities. Not at all. We do allow a bit more than the previous campaign but that stems from us being behind early so you play more openly. But overall I don't think that our issue is that we allow too many opportunities. Our challenge is we are unable to finish the chances we create."
