Larian Studios Unveil a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team is likely designing a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable with a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be completed in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
