Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Counterattacks.

Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and continuing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has not commented.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations linked to the the regime, with President Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.

Additional Developments

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.

It said missile fragments fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
