NFL 2025 season: Week six
Live coverage features live text of Sunday's games on various channels, starting with Denver Broncos v New York Jets at Tottenham (from 14:00 BST). Additionally, radio commentary is available on select stations for another key matchup (from 21:00 BST).
It's week six of the football calendar and following recent talk regarding two top teams as possible championship contenders, they both lost their unbeaten records.
Notable in those games were the number of penalties both committed. Philadelphia did so in key moments meaning they essentially defeated themselves after leading by two touchdowns going into the fourth period against the Denver Broncos, who play in London this weekend.
However it was good to see how Denver's QB the rookie was able to have the shortfall and then direct three successful possessions on three possessions in the fourth quarter, securing the game by four points.
Denver have the top defender in cornerback their star corner. They are first in goal-line defense, while Philadelphia lead the league in scoring near the end zone, and Denver prevailed in that contest.
They had effective strategies regarding disguised blitzes. They did not always rushing extra pass rushers but they could position two LBs in the 'A' gap before drop them out and dispatch a slot defender off the edge.
Early on in the campaign, we said on a program how Denver might emerge as this season's dark horses. They ended the previous year well and excelled of building upon that.
Could Denver be this year's underdog story?
Recently acquired TE their tight end has stepped up significantly while recent running back JK Dobbins is a player the team trusts. He's currently fifth in the NFL in ground gains (402) and tied for fourth in rushing scores (4).
I love that the coach the Broncos' leader displays "RUN IT!" prominently of his playcall sheet.
This demonstrates that the Broncos represent a squad that wants to run first, because one can do a lot based on that approach. It slows down the pass rush while maintains in favourable down and distances.
It's also benefited QB Bo Nix, who came the NFL as the 12th overall draft pick in the prior draft, throwing 29 touchdown passes – just behind Justin Herbert in rookie records (31 in 2020).
Josh Allen and Herbert have the arm strength to throw anywhere, but they don't move in the same way that Nix has. He has incredible passing ability, a unique trait, plus he is highly agile.
His strengths are his movement, being able to pass on the run, and using varied release points to make throws as he moves out of the pocket, on rollouts. He is able to deliver precision throws across the middle and past defenders.
As a rookie QB, aged 25, he's got a lot of poise under pressure and isn't really fazed by the blitz. He aims to evade being tackled as much as possible and is able pass under pressure. He possesses a high football IQ and remains quick to decide.
If you consistently rush it consumes time and makes the defence to be in play extended periods, and if you've got a mobile QB the defense must cover the area vertically and horizontally. This proves draining.
Nix has pushed back at Payton during games sometimes and I think the coach appreciates that attitude, that he's such a competitor. I think it's exciting for him to have a young quarterback that is similar to moldable clay. He can really develop him how he desires to build it. I think it's a unique opportunity for him.
Payton has won a Super Bowl and has surpassed Bill Parcells in all-time victories (173 - tied 14th overall). He's seen it all. I think the success the Broncos are having on offence is largely down to his leadership, his play-calling, his game sense – and the combination with Nix helps shape him what he is.
You wouldn't want a more qualified person in your ear, to assist you during difficult moments and boost confidence.
I believe in Denver's defence, in the QB's grit and calm. But is the team good enough to go against a top squad at full strength? Since that was not championship-level play from Philadelphia last Sunday.
Right now, I don't think the Broncos are incredible. They're working above average, that's a good place to hold the AFC West. All they need to do is maintain this path.
They're really good at embracing their forte, which is the ground game, and this is exactly what they must do versus the New York Jets at Tottenham. It will likely be the JK Dobbins show, essentially.
New York have allowed 140 rushing yards each contest (among the worst), five rushing touchdowns this season (in the bottom ten), and they're the sole squad yet to win any game.
Since the league started recording takeaways decades ago, the Jets are also the inaugural squad to be without any turnovers in five outings, this is surprising when you think that their new coach was previously defensive co-ordinator with another team.
Patrick Mahomes says the Chiefs have 'already lost too many games' following Monday's defeat to Jacksonville.
After this Sunday's game, the Broncos face a manageable slate up to their bye (in week 12) - the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, the Texans plus the Raiders before the Chiefs.
In their division, the Chiefs hold a losing record and the Broncos are even with the Los Angeles Chargers at 3-2 so they could make a run for the top of the division.
It depends upon what version Kansas City shows up they face because Denver {beat|def
