Forest Have No Plans to Sack Postecoglou; Liverpool Keeper Sidelined; Three Lions Team News

Postecoglou Safe - For Now

Starting from 9am this morning, the club had no plans to sack their manager but the unpredictable nature of the team and its owner the chairman indicates circumstances may shift rapidly.

The fans made their voices known on the previous day, demanding the exit of the coach who replaced an East Midlands hero and it is challenging to turn the tide once that occurs.

Postecoglou is Marinakis’ man, the owner having selected him long before the previous manager was dismissed. All involved with the club anticipated a time of adjustment but to be without a victory in six games and suffering defeats at home to Sunderland and Midtjylland were not part of the thoughts when he joined recently.

Postecoglou was intended to change the style but he has his tactical philosophy, which is very different to his predecessor, so there is an understanding that adjustments require patience. Patience, however, is not a quality often observed at Forest. The next three Premier League games are against Newcastle, Chelsea and Bournemouth, so things are not going to get easier for the manager.

Liverpool's Keeper Injured for The Reds

Arne Slot addressed the media:

“The goalkeeper is not part of the squad tomorrow and he will not go to his national team for the national team matches. Hugo [Ekitike] is returning to training today, let’s see where he is. The applies similarly for Frederico [Chiesa]. It hinges on how quickly they heal.

“I would not expect if he [Alisson] returns for the first game after the international break. After that progress may be a bit quicker or a bit slower. It’s difficult to say. I’m not medically trained so I cannot tell you if it is the same injury.”

The backup keeper is set to start instead of Alisson.

“I think we’ve seen against the Saints how seamlessly he has fitted in. We were aware we were signing a high-quality goalkeeper. When he made his debut that’s a demonstration he’s adapted excellently to the team. It’s not a surprise because he’s a quality player. Now he can do what we’ve needed to accomplish so many times in the previous seasons covering for Alisson, like we’ve handled previously.”

Fan Reaction at Forest's Stadium

Events were close to extraordinary on a disheartening night, many local fans chanting: “You’re getting sacked in the morning.” Then the supporters added insult to injury, singing the name of his former coach the ex-manager, with several directing comments at the owner watching on with his own large personal screen in the directors’ box. This made for grim viewing.

Weekend Lookahead

Unbeaten in the Premier League since their initial match, Bournemouth early momentum has been stalled by consecutive draws: at their stadium to the Magpies and at Leeds last week. The Cottagers travel to the Vitality on Friday, presenting Andoni Iraola’s side a presentable chance of returning to victory and climbing the table. After a turbulent summer, Iraola has sought consistency in his lineup choices.

Trailing 2-1 at their opponents, the Bournemouth manager made a triple change to reintroduce three regular players – David Brooks, Alex Scott and Marcus Tavernier – to his starting eleven and was compensated with a late leveller. Bournemouth have also preserved solidity at the back, allowing only one goal in several matches between the away games to Liverpool and Leeds. Marcos Senesi, often playing in an otherwise new defensive unit, has been key to the team’s continuity. The defender received accolades from Iraola for his defensive work and threat at dead-ball situations – as shown by his aerial pass for the leveling goal at the venue.
